Sources close to Biden report ‘marked incidence of cognitive decline’ in last 6 months: Bernstein

An anonymous source said to be close to President Biden has allegedly witnessed incidents similar to those seen around the country during last week’s presidential debate “15 to 20 times over the past year and a half.”

“These are people who are very close to President Biden, who love him, who have supported him, some of them have raised a lot of money for him. And they are very adamant that what we saw the other night with Joe Biden wasn’t a one-off, that there have been 15, 20 times over the last year and a half where the president has looked like that horror show that we witnessed,” CNN’s Carl Bernstein told Anderson Cooper about the debate on Monday night.

“And the question is, who is making these comments and how many people in the president’s circle are aware of these incidents, including, coincidentally, reporters who witnessed some of these incidents,” he said.

Referring to Biden’s address to the nation following the Supreme Court’s immunity from Trump’s lawsuit on Monday, Bernstein continued, “But what we see here tonight is that, as these people say, President Biden is in top form, but these people who support him, who love him, who campaigned for him and see him frequently are saying that, especially over the last six months, he has begun to show noticeable cognitive decline and physical decline.”

The 80-year-old veteran journalist claimed that sources he spoke to had told him that he had warned Ron Klain, a Biden aide who oversaw preparations for the Camp David debate over the past year, that there was “problem” with instances where the president “lost his train of thought” and was “not able to get it back.”

“He stood at the podium at one fundraiser and, according to people who were there, he became very stiff, almost like rigor mortis,” Bernstein said. “This was exactly a year ago at the old Four Seasons restaurant on Park Avenue. He became so stiff they had to bring in a chair for him to do the second half of the event.”

“I think what these people are saying, and have been saying for a while, is, ‘Yes, from what we’ve seen tonight, he’s great. But he also has some puzzling moments that we’re very concerned about. Ron Klain, and the First Family, we need to have a conversation about this.’ And every time the topic has been brought up, they’ve been pushed back repeatedly,” he continued.

Bernstein said sources claimed Biden had been “sharp” at the National Security Council but suggested the US was “dealing with two sets of one person”.

“This really needs to be looked into, according to the people I’ve talked to,” Bernstein said. “I think an awful lot of leading Democrats believe this, including people who have spoken out to the contrary. But this is an issue that’s not going to go away.”

Neither the White House nor the Biden campaign immediately responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Biden’s stunning debate performance has sent political shockwaves, with widespread liberal media coverage calling for him to drop out of the presidential race.

“Biden has been a great president. Under his leadership, the country is thriving, we’ve begun to address many of our long-term challenges, and the wounds left by Trump are beginning to heal. But the biggest public act Biden can do now is to announce that he will not run for re-election.” The New York Times editorial board wrote on Friday:.

However, prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, are backing Biden.

“Debate nights can be the worst. Trust me, I know.” President Obama said in a statement: Friday. “But this election is a choice between someone who’s spent his whole life fighting for ordinary people and someone who only thinks about himself. It’s a choice between someone who will tell the truth, know right from wrong and be honest with the American people, and someone who will lie for his own gain. Last night’s election doesn’t change that, and that’s why so much is at stake in November.”
