Tragic Accident Claims Life of Pregnant South Carolina Woman

A young mother-to-be from South Carolina lost her life, along with her unborn child, in a tragic accident involving a go-kart.

Baylee Johnson, just 24 years old and 16 weeks pregnant with her first child, whom she had named Johnny, passed away on Monday. This was eight days after the accident at a go-kart track in Sumter, South Carolina.

While driving the go-kart, her hair became caught in the sprocket, causing her neck to hyperextend and leading to suffocation. This information was provided by the Sumter County Coroner, Robbie Baker.

Sadly, both Baylee and her baby did not survive the incident, as stated in an obituary shared by the family.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, many of Baylee’s loved ones found out about her pregnancy through this tragedy.

“This isn’t how Baylee and I ever imagined sharing this news, but God has blessed us with a baby boy. Baylee is carrying our sweet Johnny, due February 21,” her partner, Justin Lowder, announced on Facebook just four days before their passing.

Lowder felt compelled to share the news about their grave situation, saying, “Please pray for Baylee and our precious baby boy. We love them both more than words could ever say.”

Baylee was known for her “caring heart” and was excited about becoming a mother, according to her family.

“She dreamed about him [Johnny], talked about him, prayed for him and was already planning the life she wanted to give him,” they shared.

They took “comfort” in the thought that Baylee and Johnny never had to say goodbye to one another.

In addition to being an aunt, which her family described as one of her “greatest joys,” she was affectionately known as “Bay Bay” to her nieces and nephew.

“She treasured coloring, laughing, being silly, and simply spending time with them. Those ordinary moments are now among the most precious memories they will carry,” her family reflected.

Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
