A man from South Carolina, Justin Collin Adams, is facing serious charges after allegedly running into three people on Sullivan Island on Thursday afternoon. According to an arrest affidavit obtained, he’s charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault, reportedly targeting his parents and two children. The incident took place around 1 p.m. near the Presbyterian Church at Sunrise.
In the affidavit, it’s noted that the 36-year-old threatened his mother with a knife, attempting to carjack her while also making threats to injure her. He then accelerated his vehicle towards a playground, hitting multiple individuals.
Reports indicate he drove at high speeds towards a sidewalk, hitting a teacher and throwing them onto the hood of the car. A 10-year-old boy, unfortunately, got pinned underneath when Adams hit a curb and deployed the airbag.
After the chaos, Adams fled on foot.
Special Services Sgt. Matthew Stolen shared with Fox News that Adams was apprehended later that evening. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond for aggravated assault and remains unconfined while facing attempted murder charges. The motive behind his actions, however, still remains unclear.
During the manhunt, various local and federal agencies were involved, including the FBI and NCIS. Stolen commented on the extensive search, noting how they utilized aviation assets and local knowledge to locate him. “We had a helicopter in the air,” he mentioned, explaining that personnel had seen Adams trying to hide in boat covers at a dock.
After being located, Adams complied with officers’ commands during his arrest and was taken into custody without any incidents. He’s set to return to court on June 13.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the criminal investigation but has not yet provided further comments. Fox News Digital also reached out to the court clerk for more details.
