South Carolina State Sen. Matt Leber Continues Fight to Uphold Constitution in Charleston

South Carolina Sen. Matt Leber (R) continues his fight to pledge to local officials to follow existing laws after overturning the county councillor's decision to do so and informed Breitbart News that this was “the cutting edge of the culture war at this point.”

Joining Saturday Breitbart News Along with Washington Director Matt Boyle, Leber spoke about how he is expanding his legislative battle to get the Charleston County Public Library board of directors backing the constitution.

“We called many senators who could get on the phone over the weekend, and that's difficult at times, but 14 signed a letter stating that no new laws will come. The law is enough. The county will lose their funds until they remove them.

in episode of Saturday Breitbart News Earlier in March, Leber reported that he had confirmed with South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson that the state's constitution requires civil servants to take oath.

“I asked for an opinion from the South Carolina Attorney General. He said, 'Yeah, it's definitely in the law. These people must pledge their oaths to the Constitution.” And I started to argue for it, and as you can imagine, it went out of it,” the state senator said.

The Charleston County Council has moved back and forth between the issues, switching Their vote went no, yes, no again on Thursday.

The next vote will take place next Tuesday to solidify that decision.

Councillor Brantley Moody (R) I said wcbd he agrees to implement the sworn policy but requires guidance from the state legislators on how to implement it.

We learned throughout the last week and a half that our store clerks have spent 24 hours a day trying to do state work and are trying to find a way to implement this policy that takes the oath we all stand. Our position for the evening is that we need to give instructions to the people of Colombia to all 46 counties at the general meeting. Charleston County should not write the entire law. Everyone there is in favor of making a vow. We need to know how to do it.

Leber said eight of the 11 members of the Library Committee refused to pledge to maintain the Constitution, urging him to ask for their dismissal.

According to lawmakers, the issue is much deeper than the Library Committee.

In other words, think about it like this. If anyone says, “I can't swear by this Constitution, so that's not always in favor of me,” he is a library councillor. Is there a chance they actually vote for a book that talks about celebrating the Constitution or establishing a father? That's – no, they'll never support those books. So it's big. It's bigger than not making a vow. But they call these people for decades to hate America, hate our founders, hate our sacred documents, and when they take power, that's how they use American education of hatred, and I call them. This is greater than not making a vow. This is the cutting edge of the culture war at this point.

The fight certainly isn't over, he added.

“We're going to fight this all the time and they'll be forced to take vows or not,” Lever said. “And I think the left is most afraid that hundreds of people across the state will say no to oaths. That's a huge reform.”
