South Dakota Campus Carry Legislation Moves to House

Laws allowing firearms to be carried on campus in self-defense have passed the South Dakota Senate and moved to the home.

  • Cylinders containing corrosive, reactive, flammable, toxic, or oxidizing agents
  • Acetylene gas cylinder
  • Magnetic resonance imaging devices or nuclear magnetic resonance instruments
  • Rooms used for manufacturing and scientific research are used when the concentration of airborne particles is controlled to maintain the environment with minimal contaminants.
  • A clearly designated part of the building or structure to which the facility's security clearance applies, or a part where federal security clearance is required;
  • Buildings or structures during special events are subject to the presence of metal detectors and armed security personnel at any public entrance to restrict ownership of dangerous weapons.

Campus Carrie is a land law in at least 11 states. According to Campus Safety Magazine. These states are Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Campus carry became legal in Colorado in 2003, but state Democrats decided to ban campus carry from July 1, 2024 in self-defense.
