Southwest Airlines Flight Experiences Go-Around at Burbank Airport
A Southwest Airlines pilot informed passengers that the plane had to execute a go-around after a brief attempt to land at Hollywood-Burbank Airport, stating that “the commanded runway was not clear.” This incident took place on Thursday as the Boeing 737 was arriving from Las Vegas.
“Hey folks, just a quick update,” the pilot mentioned over the intercom, according to a video captured by KABC. “We weren’t exactly sure when or where we were going to land, so we had to go around.” The pilot estimated it would take another five to ten minutes to land safely.
A passenger confirmed that the plane’s wheels touched down on the runway before it ascended again sharply.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) later clarified that the crew of Southwest Airlines Flight 2353 performed a pilot-led go-around after the brief landing attempt. They also stated that “no other aircraft or vehicles were involved.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines confirmed to FOX News Digital that there had been no internal reports of runway incursions and that the FAA has not indicated otherwise.
“Initial reports suggest the pilot executed a routine maneuver before safely landing. Nothing matters more to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees,” the spokesperson added.
This incident comes in the wake of previous concerns, including a situation in July 2025 when a Southwest Airlines pilot on a route from Burbank to Las Vegas had to take evasive action to avoid a mid-air collision.
