Southwest Flight Evades Collision, Passengers Experience Chaos

Passengers traveling on Southwest Flight 1496 from Burbank to Las Vegas endured a terrifying moment shortly after takeoff when the aircraft made a sudden maneuver to avoid what could have been a mid-air collision.

This abrupt action resulted in many passengers being thrown from their seats against the ceiling, leading to screams of panic from both children and adults. It was a chaotic scene, and understandably, people were understandably scared.

While reports suggest at least one flight attendant suffered injuries, the airline has yet to confirm specific details surrounding the event.

Passenger Accounts of the Incident

Caitlyn Birdy, a passenger on the same flight, expressed to a news outlet that she had previously traveled this route and recognized that such extreme turbulence was not typical. “About ten minutes in, we plunged significantly,” she recalled. “I looked around, and it seemed like everyone was trying to convince themselves that this was normal. But then, in just two seconds, it felt as if we had dropped 20 to 30 feet. The screams were just horrifying.”

Another passenger noted seeing a flight attendant who appeared shaken after hitting his head during the drop. Another attendant had announced that he was stepping away from his duties.

Following the dramatic plunge, the pilot addressed the cabin, explaining that the plane nearly collided with another aircraft and had lost contact with air traffic control.
