Speaker Johnson personally read the law to Biden on border crisis, and he reveals why Biden refuses to take action

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) acknowledged Friday that he believes White House staff, not President Joe Biden, are making decisions about President Biden’s immigration policy.

Last weekend, Biden I promised to close the store. border only if Congress has passed a controversial bill (which has not yet been drafted) that Republicans believe will do little to stem the immigration crisis. But Republicans like Johnson are urging Biden to use the powers he already has to ease the crisis.

In an interview with FOX Business, Johnson revealed how Biden perceives his authority. That’s because Johnson has personally read the law to Biden.

“He knows he has the authority. We have it in writing for him. I read the law to him, myself, to the president. Read the provisions of the law. And I said, ‘Mr. President, please take action,”’ Johnson said.

“I don’t think he’s allowed to do that. I don’t know if Joe Biden is actually making these decisions. I think it’s the staff around him. “They’re putting pressure on them to keep it open,” the speaker surmised.

Earlier this week, Johnson listed some specific powers that Biden could use at the border.

“Here are just a few of the powers at the president’s disposal: immigration restriction power 212(f), summary removal power 235(b)(1), and discretionary detention, if he were to exercise them. Power 236(a), mandatory detention. 236(c),” Johnson. explained.

Furthermore, Johnson Said Biden could use the Immigration and Nationality Act to end catch-and-release, end the use of parole powers, reinstate the Remain in Mexico program and expand expedited removals.

But the White House disputes that Biden can take any action, which is why Biden requested it Lawmaker: “Please give me authority!”
