House Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday expressed deep concern over a major leak of U.S. intelligence detailing Israel's plans for retaliation against Iran, stressing that he was watching the situation “closely.”
Mr. Johnson (R-Louisiana), who is campaigning in Michigan, said he would meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and receive a “classified-level” briefing on the breach later that day.
“The breach is very worrying. There are serious allegations raised there and an investigation is underway, about which we will be briefed in the next few hours,” Johnson told CNN. He spoke in the State of the Union. “We are tracking it closely.”
“I spoke to my friend Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday and encouraged him,” he added. “I think the United States needs to clearly support its allies there…We are on a cliff…a new era of security and freedom for Israel is here.”And we… I think it's very close. ”
