Speaker Johnson’s Spending Bill Is ‘Hugely Harmful to President Trump’

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) told Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlowe that House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-Louisiana) spending bill, if passed by Congress, would be a big deal for President-elect Donald Trump. He said it would be “very harmful.”

Appearing on “The Alex Marlowe Show” on Wednesday, Hawley said the continuing resolution (CR) spending bill led by Speaker Johnson was intended to be used as Congress rushed to pass the bill at the last minute before Friday's funding deadline. He said that the vote was delayed. The government did not give anyone time to properly scrutinize its contents.

“By law, Congress is supposed to pass a budget in September,” Hawley said. “They're supposed to break it up into 10 separate budget bills for us to discuss, read and pass, and they're not doing any of that. They're clearly doing 9 They're counting on the fact that the deadline for the month passes quickly, and then at the end of the year, a huge amount piles up and there's no more time, no one has time to read this. That's what they want.”

“They're betting on it. They don't want us to read and find out what we've crammed into this. That's why they're trying to rush a vote tonight.” “Democrats have been doing this for decades, and the fact that Republicans are doing it is just disgusting.”

Hawley concluded that the bill would be “very harmful” to President Trump, “because they would be spending all this money on Democratic priorities and other garbage.”

As Breitbart News reported, the government funding bill would include “one of the State Department's Global Engagement Centers (GECs), an agency that funds organizations that censor conservative media, including Breitbart News It also includes a yearly extension.

Provisions extending funding for the program are included on page 139 of a 1,537-page continuing resolution released Tuesday night, hours before the House votes on the short-term spending bill.

of washington examiner Gabe Kaminski Posted The bill “includes a one-year extension of the State Department's Global Engagement Center,” he said on Twitter. matt taibi The organization is reportedly funding anti-speech campaigns and is being sued by The Federalist and The Daily Wire. ”

Mr. Marlowe referred to this provision in the bill and asked Mr. Hawley for clarification.

“Personally, at Breitbart, we've worked very hard to make sure that federal funds aren't being spent censoring people. What are the censorship provisions? How much are they allotted? “How scary is this?” asked Marlowe.

“We're just reading it right now trying to figure it out, but like you said, all you have to do with these bills is read it and then add references to other page numbers. It's about following it and understanding what it means.'' Money is like that, so I don't know either,'' Hawley replied.

“That's ridiculous,” Marlow retorted.

“It's ridiculous. It's designed to be impenetrable. So we don't even know how much money is allocated, but the fact that it's going to be extended is completely unbelievable. “The fact that there are all kinds of shields that prevent people from understanding whether, for example, a member of Congress has broken the law,” Hawley concluded.
