Special Envoy Steve Witkoff Had ‘Very Positive’ Talks with Iran

The White House says that the envoy to Middle Eastern Steve Witkov had “very positive and constructive” discussions with Iran on Saturday.

The White House has issued a statement regarding the much-anticipated meeting in Oman. There, Witkov's American delegation and the US ambassador of Omani Ana Escrogima discussed with Iran's Dr. Abbas Aragut. Oman's foreign minister said Badr had held a meeting in Muscat.

“The discussion is very positive and constructive and the US is deeply grateful to the Sultan of Oman for supporting this initiative,” the White House said in a statement.

“Envoy Witkov emphasized that Dr. Aragut has directed President Trump to resolve the differences between our two countries through dialogue and diplomacy. If possible, the White House was added and noted the complexity of the issues at hand.

“These issues are very complicated and today's special envoy Witkov's direct communication was a step forward to achieving mutually beneficial results. We agreed to meet again next Saturday,” the statement concluded.

President Donald Trump foresaw a Saturday meeting last Monday, speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his oval office. Trump and Netanyahu said Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.

“We discussed in person with Iran, and they started… there's a really big meeting on Saturday. We'll see what happens. I agree that it's better for everyone to do business than do what's obvious,” Trump said.

“And the obvious thing is that it's not something I want to be involved, and frankly, if Israel can avoid it, we want to be involved. So we'll see if we can avoid it, but it's going to be a very dangerous territory,” he added.

He went on to say that Iran is in a “big danger” if the talks on Saturday fail.

“I think if the consultations don't succeed with Iran, Iran will be in great danger. And they don't like to say that because they can't have nuclear weapons – a huge danger,” he said.
