By the end of 2024, spending on streaming services in Japan will be folded From an average of $55.04 per month to just $42.38.
That's a staggering 23% decrease in just one year.
With millions of people canceling their very expensive cable packages every year, you might think the amount they spend on streaming would increase. After all, as of 2022, sucker On average, people pay approximately $220 per month For cable.
Even if you cancel cable and spend $100 a month on a streaming service, you'll still save big. That's not the only thing happening.
In fact, what's happening now is alarming…Hollywood's bad guys are losing millions of customers paying $220 a month. At the same time, these villains lost nearly a quarter of their streaming revenue.
Nothing happens to such kind people who hate us.
So why is this happening?
This is The Wrap explanation:
Americans are experiencing “streaming fatigue.” This is defined as “the very feeling of being overwhelmed by the increasing number of streaming apps.” …Another potential reason…is that many of them are increasing their spending on cable and satellite TV, which is up 11% from last year. … The decline in streaming spending is due to ad-supported streaming reaching an all-time high in 2024. By the end of the third quarter, a record 43% of streaming subscriptions were ad-supported.[.]
There are several others explanation:
Cost of Living: With the price of many things rising, people are cutting back on extra costs such as streaming.
Subscription choices: People are choosing fewer subscriptions. They select only the services they use the most.
I'll add two more reasons. First, there is a large amount of free streaming available today, and much of it is of high quality. Ad-supported streaming subscriptions may be cheaper, but free is free. Between streaming sites like Pluto, FreeVee, Roku TV, YouTube, and Tubi (the tip of the free streaming iceberg), there's a lot of free content out there. Tried to drink water from a fire hose.
The second reason I would like to add is either the content is terrible or the price is too high. Other than Amazon Prime, which has free shipping, my wife and I don't subscribe to any streaming services. For example, with Netflix, I spent $15 a month searching the menu endlessly every night and never found what I wanted to watch. When we saw something, it was because we felt it was worth the money. That's a stupid reason. After using Netflix for 10 years, I can't think of a single movie or show that I'd want to watch again.
Meanwhile, if you pay for high-speed internet and buy the $50 Roku Player, you can watch all kinds of great movies and TV shows for free. You won't have access to new shows, but if you wait a year or two, you'll be able to watch: yellowstone and the walking dead Appears in these free apps.
Hollywood spends tens of billions of dollars a year on content, and for whatever reason, we just don't watch it.
