NBA insider Shams Charania took a break from his basketball scoop coverage to inform his X followers that President Joe Biden is withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday.
And many users said that this was how they found out about the shocking news.
Charania, 30 years old, wrote on his account 1:50pm: “Joe Biden has withdrawn from the US presidential election.”
This happened four minutes after Biden posted a letter to his X account announcing that he would not seek re-election.
Within 40 minutes, Charania’s tweet had already been viewed 7 million times.
“I learned about one of the most significant moments in recent American political history through an NBA Twitter Alert,” CBS NBA reporter Sam Quinn said. I wrote to X.
“The fact that I found out about this from Shams Charania pretty much sums up my life,” X-user @graceifthecurls said. Responded.

“Thank you Shams for being the source of world news,” said another X user, @j6rek. I have written.
Others posted memes in response to Biden leaving office.
Molly Morrison of Bleacher Report posted a photo of Kawhi Leonard, expressionless, posing in a Team USA jersey during Olympic team training camp. Leonard was quickly removed from the team due to injury.
Some other X users joked that Charania beat out former teammate and rival Adrian Wojnarowski, who had not tweeted or retweeted anything about the Biden news as of this writing.
“@wojespn is cooked,” X-user @PotatoGobbler I have written.
Charania, who has worked for The Athletic, Stadium and FanDuel, is set to become a free agent soon with all three contracts expiring within two months of each other, The Washington Post’s Ryan Glaspiegel reported Tuesday.
