Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the New England Patriots, has lost some of his luster as he faces criticism in Boston, where he’s been labeled a “horny old man” due to his relationship with a 20-year-old girlfriend and comments about team owner Robert Kraft.
A host on Boston’s sports radio station took a jab at Belichick after a former coach criticized Kraft. It seems Belichick’s reputation is fading in a city that once celebrated him as a Super Bowl-winning coach, according to reports.
Host Mike Felger did not hold back, saying, “If a paranoid, stubborn, totally arrogant, horny old man can take a team to the NCAA playoffs, that’s a story,” referencing Belichick’s current college coaching job.
The sharp comments followed Belichick’s attempt to differentiate between his roles in the NFL and now as a college coach at the University of North Carolina.
“We don’t have an owner or the usual structure you’d find in the NFL. It’s a different level,” Belichick argued in a recent interview.
Felger’s co-host, Tony Massarotti, echoed the criticism. “Bill is the problem,” he said emphatically. He recognized Belichick’s past success, particularly with Tom Brady, but expressed frustration at his current demeanor and attitude.
Massarotti also weighed in on Belichick’s relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, remarking that North Carolina has its expectations, and one misstep could jeopardize everything for him.
Felger concluded that Belichick seems driven to succeed in college football, perhaps as a way to divert attention from his personal life.
Belichick and the Tar Heels are set to kick off their season against TCU on September 1st.
