‘Squad’ Dems to rally for Cori Bush as she fights for her political life

Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri), whose anti-Israel rhetoric is putting her political career on the line in this week’s primary election, received a boost Monday from allies in the left-wing House “Squad.”

“Only one day left until Primary Day! Join Cori and special guests on the night before Election Day to encourage people to vote!” the Bush campaign wrote in announcing the event on Instagram.

The virtual gathering will be held on Zoom at 5 p.m. Eastern Time and will include Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Summer Lee (D-PA).

The House Democrat is the first member of the division to lose a primary election.

Another high-profile guest will be actor Hill Harper, who is running against Bush’s more moderate colleague, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), in the Michigan Senate Democratic primary.

Bowman’s arrival comes after he lost his own re-election primary to a more moderate, pro-Israel Democrat, Westchester County Mayor George Latimer.

Mr. Bush is seen as the second-most struggling brigade member after Mr. Bowman, and pro-Israel groups have been campaigning aggressively against both progressive leftists.

The two-term progressive Democrat has been one of Congress’ harshest critics of Israel and its activities in Gaza. She has accused the Israeli government of committing genocide against Palestinians and has consistently voted against emergency funding for its Middle East allies.

Tlaib, one of the Bush allies who held a rally on her behalf Monday night, has been one of Israel’s harshest critics in the House of Representatives and has been accused of verbal attacks against the Middle Eastern country. She also held a sign in Congress last month denouncing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “war criminal.”

Bush’s opponent, Bell, is the St. Louis County prosecutor who has taken a more centrist stance on the campaign trail, contrasting with the progressive policies of the Democratic incumbent.
