‘Squatters Have No Rights’: John Fetterman Rips Soft Treatment Of Home Occupiers

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman decried the soft treatment of squatters in an interview with the New York Post published Saturday.

In late March, a TikTok user accused illegal immigrants of using so-called “squatter rights” to attack unoccupied homes after a New Yorker was reportedly detained for allegedly trying to evict an illegal immigrant from his home. He became a hot topic for teaching people how to “break in.” Fetterman strongly condemned the idea that squatters should be allowed to occupy other people’s homes. Said NYP “Not awake”

“It’s crazy that you go on a 30-day trip and someone breaks into your home and suddenly you have rights,” Fetterman continued. “It’s crazy. For example, if someone steals your car and then keeps it for 30 days, does that somehow give you any rights?”

On March 27, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill to crack down on “squatter fraud” in the state by streamlining the process by which authorities evict people from their homes. The bill also adds three new offenses related to illegal occupation.

“If this person is convicted, he should spend the rest of his life in prison and never have a chance to get out,” Fetterman told NYP. “When you have such an established record, it serves no greater purpose to allow people to offend, to offend, to offend, and to make sure they are not held accountable.” not.”
