A few days later, on Wednesday, a 16-year-old Missouri high school hockey player was killed by a stray bullet on a busy highway while driving home from a game with his father.
Collin Brown, a sophomore at Christian Brothers College High School (CBCHS), was sitting in the passenger seat of his father, Calvin, on Interstate 55 in South St. Louis on Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. Ta. According to First Alert 4.
Brown was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon.
“Colin was a beloved and talented hockey player, but he died before he could give the ultimate gift of life,” said Mitch McCoy, St. Louis Metro Police Public Affairs Director. “Colin's organs were donated to other patients in desperate need. This donation is an example of the kind of young man he was and the kind of family he grew up in.”
Brown enrolled at CBCHS, one of Missouri's most elite high school hockey programs, after transferring from Illinois State in the fall. He was in his seventh game of the season at his new school.
“He was a talented and dedicated student who was enrolled in the Honors Course and was a valued member of the CBC varsity hockey team,” CBCHS said in a statement.
McCoy said police received numerous calls from motorists and neighbors about the shooting.
Police believe there was an intense gunfight as the Browns were traveling in opposite directions. According to Fox2.
Detectives are reviewing newly obtained footage from the scene as they search for the suspected shooter.
“We cannot tolerate this type of violence,” McCoy said. “We want people to drive safely on the interstate and in the city of St. Louis.
“It's incredibly rare for a 16-year-old kid who just left a hockey game to get shot. You don't hear about innocent bystanders getting hit by stray bullets here. When that kind of violence happens… , we will commit the entire police force to finding out who committed the violence and ensuring they are held accountable.”
The coaching staff of the NHL's St. Louis Blues left a memorial with a “72 Strong” pin honoring Brown's jersey number. Hockey stick outside the locker room Wednesday night before the game.
Calvin Brown thanked the St. Louis Police Department and the Illinois State Police for their “continued efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this senseless crime against our beloved son, Colin,” but St. Louis “More efforts should be made,” authorities said. ” and support the police.
“As a family and as former law enforcement officers with over 28 years of experience, we want to support the police in the City of St. Louis and the surrounding communities and provide them with the tools they need to fight crimes like this. “We believe we need to do more to combat 'senseless and violent gun violence,'” Brown said Sunday.
