Aaron Judge Visits Yankees’ HOPE Week Event

Aaron Judge made a rare appearance on Tuesday at the Yankees’ HOPE Week celebration, honoring Dunia Sibomana Rodriguez.

His politeness when interacting with fans and the Connect Four game he lost to Sibomana Rodriguez were notable, but what really struck him was the inspiring nature of their car ride from Long Beach High School to UNC.

Sibomana Rodriguez faced a horrific incident in her home country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, when she was attacked by a chimpanzee at the age of six. This brutal attack left her with severe injuries, and tragically, she lost both her brother and cousin during the incident.

Since that day, she has undergone 16 surgeries and lost both of her birth parents.

“Going through what he experienced teaches you a lot,” Judge, currently sidelined with a stress fracture in his right rib, reflected before the Yankees secured a 12-2 victory against the White Sox.

He paused, searching for words, and continued, “I can’t even fathom dealing with that, and it’s really something to see him here smiling and enjoying life. As a father, I just can’t imagine my kid going through such a terrible experience.”

Responding to the story of Sibomana Rodriguez, Judge and others quickly decided they had to be part of this event during HOPE Week.

Several teammates, including Ben Rice, Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Volpe, Giancarlo Stanton, and David Bednar, showed up for a surprise party at Yankee Stadium with family and friends. Coach Stanton even invited Sibomana Rodriguez to throw the first pitch in the night’s game.

Judge took time to connect with the national champion wrestler during the event and was delighted to receive an autographed Yankees shirt from him.

“It really shifts your perspective… I truly missed being part of moments like this. It was something special,” Judge concluded.
