State Department Cancels Unprecedented 85,000 Visas as Trump Administration Intensifies Security Measures

State Department Cancels Record Number of Visas

The State Department has recently canceled an unprecedented 85,000 visas amid heightened scrutiny of individuals seeking to enter the United States. This surge includes over 8,000 student visas—more than double the figures from 2024, as noted by a State Department representative.

Various reasons have contributed to these cancellations, including serious offenses such as drunk driving, assault, and theft, which collectively account for almost half of the total cancellations in the past year. “These individuals present a direct threat to our community’s safety, and we prefer they do not enter the country,” the official stated.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has intensified its examination of specific visa applicants. U.S. consular officials have reportedly been instructed to conduct stringent reviews of H-1B visa candidates, particularly focusing on any history of “censorship or attempts to censor” protected speech in the U.S.

Additionally, the administration announced the suspension of entries from 19 nations currently facing partial or complete travel restrictions. Last week, new visa policies were introduced, particularly aimed at individuals accused of involving themselves in religious violence against Christians, a response to recent severe anti-Christian incidents in Nigeria.

Moreover, the State Department has revoked visas and travel privileges for six Mexican airline executives and their families, accused of cooperating with smuggling rings to facilitate migrant transport, including minors. These groups are said to provide fraudulent travel papers, compelling many migrants to traverse Central America before seeking entry into the United States.
