Sen. Johnny Turner, R-Kentucky, died Tuesday, Senate President Robert Stivers said in a statement on behalf of the Senate Majority Caucus.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Senator Johnny Turner passed away on Tuesday night after a hard battle with injuries sustained in a recent accident,” the statement said.
Turner, who died at the age of 76, was injured last month when he fell into an empty swimming pool while riding a lawnmower, the Associated Press reported.

“Johnny spent his life inspiring others, whether through his service in the U.S. Army, as a state representative and state senator, or in private practice. “His unwavering commitment to his brothers and sisters in Christ, whom he affectionately referred to as 'his people,' was at the heart of everything he did,” Stivers said.
State Sen. Philip Wheeler said in a Facebook post that Turner is a generous man.
