State Senator wins Dem primary in central New York, lining up showdown for pivotal swing seat

New York State Senator John Mannion, a former public school teacher, won the Democratic primary for New York’s 22nd Congressional District on Tuesday night, setting him up to face New York Rep. Brandon Williams in November.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report ranks the district as one of the most competitive in the country, and Democrats are eyeing it as their best opportunity to retake control of the House next year.

His victory came despite recent allegations that the New York senator’s office was a toxic work environment “including abuse, harassment and retaliation,” unconfirmed sources said. Open Letter Signed by “Concerned Mannion Staff,” Mannion told local media. CNY He called the accusations a “false political attack.”

Williams endorsed former President Trump in late January, but the endorsement was lukewarm and did not directly praise the former president.

“President Trump will be the Republican nominee for president. Our country is under immense pressure – inflation, border chaos, sanctuary cities, fentanyl, cashless bail, crime, energy costs – we can’t endure four more years of the illusion of progressivism. We need a Republican in the White House, and I have always said I will have my full support for our candidate to rebuild this country,” Williams said on The X after Trump’s victory in the New Hampshire Republican primary.
