Steelers’ fake punt backfires in spectacular fashion vs. Commanders

The design was perfect.

The first run was strong.

There was just one problem for the Steelers. Gunner James Pierre dropped a pass on a fake punt deep in his own half.

Three players later, the Commanders reached the end zone and tied the game at 7-all.

It was a strange decision for coach Mike Tomlin to call for a fake. The Steelers were leading 7-0 and were facing fourth-and-15 at their own 16-yard line.

Had Pierre caught the pass from safety Myles Killebrew, it would have been a first down.

But it was still a strange calling, deep in their own realm.

Eventually, it came back to attack Tomlin and the Steelers.

At halftime, the manager led the Steelers 17-14.
