Success of TJ Watt’s Surgery
Former NFL player JJ Watt, who is the older brother of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt, shared an update on Friday regarding his brother’s health. TJ underwent surgery on Wednesday to stabilize a partially collapsed lung, and it was reported to be successful.
JJ Watt mentioned on X that this incident occurred after TJ received air needle treatment at the Steelers’ training facility. While he is due to leave the hospital on Friday, there isn’t yet clarity on how long his recovery will take.
“He and his family are incredibly thankful for all the support and well wishes from everyone,” JJ expressed.
According to the Steelers, TJ Watt was hospitalized due to discomfort in his lungs. Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that he will not participate in the upcoming Monday game against the Miami Dolphins. This is a significant loss for the Steelers, especially since Watt has been active in all games this season.
Currently, the Steelers hold the top spot in the AFC North with a 27-22 victory over the Baltimore Ravens last week. They are at 7-6 and still contending for a playoff position, with Watt serving as a crucial part of their defensive lineup.
During this season, Watt has participated in 13 games, accumulating seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and a total of 53 tackles. He has been selected for the Pro Bowl for the last seven consecutive years.
In 2021, Watt had an impressive record of 22.5 sacks and was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year. He has been a four-time first-team All-Pro and a runner-up for the award twice as well.
Boasting career stats of 115 sacks and 36 forced fumbles over 134 games, he is renowned for his ability to pressure quarterbacks consistently.
The Dolphins are also vying for a playoff opportunity and have won their last four games, bringing them to a 6-7 record after a sluggish start. They are focused on securing a wild-card spot as it appears they can’t catch the New England Patriots (11-2) to win the AFC East.
The Steelers and Dolphins are set to compete in an important AFC matchup on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
