House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik of New York told the New York State Professional Standards Commission on Tuesday that the New York State Attorney General’s office allegedly violated “principles of fairness and impartiality” through “relentless conduct.” issued a 64-page letter calling for the disqualification of Letitia James. She called for “legal action” against former President Donald Trump on social media.
If Mr. James is disbarred, Mr. Trump’s chances of defeating Mr. James’s prosecution will greatly increase.
James is effectively bankrupting Trump by demanding a $370 million fine and lifetime income from his New York real estate industry. James claims Trump committed financial fraud.
Stefanik said in a statement obtained by Breitbart News:
Attorney General James is undermining fairness and impartiality by engaging in a relentless legal campaign against President Trump that has logged over 50 prejudicial comments on social media in just five weeks since the start of the trial. It is clear that basic principles have been violated.
“Going after President Trump has been her stated mission since she announced her candidacy,” she continued. “Such conduct not only undermines the integrity of the legal process, but also violates the rules of professional conduct that James is expected to abide by as a licensed attorney.”
While all Americans have the right to express their opinions on matters of public interest, lawyers, especially state attorneys general, are held to a higher standard because of their unique roles as court officials. Her actions not only constitute a breach of professional responsibility, but also risk irreparable damage to the public’s trust in our legal institutions. I urge the Judicial Grievance Commission to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation, protect the integrity of the legal profession, and ensure that justice is impartially served by immediately suspending and disbarring Attorney General James. We request that appropriate disciplinary action, such as suspension, be taken.
In a letter to the New York Professional Standards Board, Stefanik pointed to 50 specific examples:
