Stefon Diggs Seeks New NFL Opportunity
Stefon Diggs is still on the hunt for his next NFL team following a season with the New England Patriots that concluded with a loss in Super Bowl LX.
As he heads into his 12th season, with training camps across the league set to begin soon, Diggs shared his thoughts in a recent YouTube video posted on his channel. In it, he claimed to be the best No. 2 receiver in the league, and elaborated on that viewpoint.
“Everyone got a 1,” he stated. “Some say there are about seven true ones. But in my view, I can compete with anyone—think of it as your No. 1. You can’t name a No. 2 better than me. Maybe I should get some credit, right? Like, if you think I’m trying to take the No. 1 spot.” He challenged anyone to name a better No. 2 receiver, asking them to share how much that player earns, and whether they believe he measures up.
In his first season with the Patriots, Diggs made 85 receptions out of 102 targets, totaling 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, largely thanks to quarterback Drake Maye. This marked Diggs’ seventh 1,000-yard season in the NFL; impressively, he has hit that mark in seven out of the last eight seasons.
Although at 32 years old, he has considered taking a pay cut to join a team that could lead him to the playoffs and potentially another Super Bowl run, no teams have made any moves yet.
Could his off-field issues be influencing teams? In December, he faced serious allegations related to an incident with a personal chef but was acquitted by a jury, and the NFL closed its investigation, citing a lack of evidence for any misconduct. “Professional athletes have a target on their backs,” his attorney stated in light of the verdict.
Diggs’ lawyer expressed that they had taken the situation seriously from the start, valuing the chance to clear his name through legal channels. The Patriots released him in March, but he’s been training hard and actively searching for new opportunities since then.
Potential teams interested in Diggs include the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, and possibly even a reunion with the Buffalo Bills, where he built a strong rapport with quarterback Josh Allen during their Pro Bowl appearances from 2020 to 2023.
