Stefon Diggs’ Arraignment Delayed
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs received a delay for his arraignment on charges related to the alleged assault of his personal chef. The new date is set for February 13, as per court records.
Originally, he was supposed to appear in Dedham District Court on January 23, just days before the AFC Championship game. His lawyer, David Meyer, indicated that the postponement was requested due to a “pre-scheduled professional commitment” on that date.
This delay allows Diggs to participate fully in the postseason and likely keeps him off the NFL commissioner’s exempt list, which is reserved for players facing special circumstances.
The Patriots, known for their strong season, with a record of 13-3, are set to host the Los Angeles Chargers (11-6) in the wild-card round this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
The new arraignment date falls five days after the 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California.
Diggs has denied the allegations through his attorney. In a court filing from December, Meyer sought a delay, mentioning that Diggs was newly involved in the situation and had a professional engagement on the previously scheduled date.
Judge Jean-Marie Carroll approved the request to move the arraignment to February 13.
Addressing the media last Friday, Diggs remarked, “It was an emotional time, dealing with everything.” He also noted, “This is obviously an open case, so I can’t say anything about that.”
According to the police report, Diggs is accused of slapping and strangling his personal chef during a financial disagreement at his home in Dedham on December 2. The charges include strangulation, as the woman alleged he choked her until she lost consciousness.
Diggs, who welcomed a son with rapper Cardi B in November, is in the first year of a three-year, $69 million contract with the Patriots.
Interestingly, the day after the allegations against Diggs surfaced, reports emerged that another Patriots player, Christian Barmore, had been charged with domestic assault stemming from an incident in Mansfield on August 8.
Barmore, 26, is facing one count of assault and battery on a family or household member, as indicated by court records.
