Stephon Diggs’ Recovery Timelines and Patriots Outlook
Stephon Diggs is making noticeable progress in his recovery from an ACL injury he suffered nearly ten months ago. With the regular season looming, his status for Week 1 is uncertain, especially concerning the New England Patriots. When pressed about his readiness for September 7, he wasn’t definitive.
“We know everyone is excited,” he shared. “I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he mentioned during a recent podcast.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has kept details regarding Diggs’ absence from the first preseason game against Washington under wraps. Last month, Vrabel indicated that Diggs had received medical clearance to participate as the team kicked off training camp, although the Pro Bowl receiver had limited practice in the spring.
Diggs, who previously played for the Houston Texans, sustained his injury late last season. It seems there’s some skepticism within the coaching staff about his chances of hitting the field when the Patriots face off against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I’m always pushing myself,” Diggs said, but added, “I really have mixed feelings. The coach isn’t too optimistic, and honestly, I’m not either. I keep trying to take it day by day, but it’s hard to say where I’m at.”
After securing less than 500 yards with the Texans, Diggs signed a three-year deal with the Patriots in March. It’s noteworthy that he has consistently surpassed 1,000 yards for six seasons prior, which underscores how significant the injury has been for him.
