After what was a scary time at one point, the U.S. men’s basketball team is finding some breathing room.
After trailing by as many as 17 points, the United States staged a miraculous comeback in the fourth quarter to beat Serbia 95-91 and advance to their fourth consecutive gold medal.
The U.S. was down 13 points going into the fourth set and was on the brink of a major comeback, but quickly found itself within five with just over seven minutes left.

The U.S. took control after that. After the two teams traded points, consecutive points from Joel Embiid put the U.S. within two with just over four minutes left, and then LeBron James made a difficult layup to tie the game at 84-84 with 3:39 left.
Serbia regained the lead, but Stephen Curry made his ninth three-pointer to put the U.S. up by one, then James hit a reverse layup to put the U.S. up by three, and Curry matched it to put the U.S. ahead 91-86 with 1:41 left in the game. The game ended with the U.S. going on a 14-2 run to open up a lead.

Leading by two with 8.2 seconds left in the game, Curry made two free throws to seal the victory. The U.S. outscored Serbia 32-15 in the fourth quarter.
“It was a tough battle,” James said on NBC after the game, “credit to Serbia, but we came through.”
Curry’s 36 points were one shy of Carmelo Anthony’s American Olympic record. James recorded his second Olympic triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, and Embiid added 19 points.

The United States will face host France in the gold medal game, a rematch of the gold medal battle from three years ago.
