Stephen Curry Faces Setback in Recovery
Stephen Curry is reportedly experiencing a setback in his recovery from a knee injury that’s kept him off the court since late January. The Golden State Warriors star has already missed nine games.
Efforts to push himself in training, perhaps a bit too much, seem to have backfired. According to Mark Spears from ESPN, this has resulted in some additional issues.
This setback arose just around the time of the NBA All-Star break, as Spears mentioned during a broadcast on Bay Area radio. “He was trying to train, he was trying to get back, and it pushed him back,” Spears stated. The timeline for Curry’s return remains uncertain. However, it’s clear he is eager to return to play.
The Warriors will evaluate Curry again on Saturday. While they face the Lakers later that day, he will indeed be missing his tenth game due to patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly referred to as runner’s knee, accompanied by a bone bruise on his right knee.
This diagnosis indicates inflammation around the front of his knee, explained Dr. Nirav Pandya, an orthopedic surgeon from UCSF. Rest is the recommended treatment but, as Dr. Pandya noted, determining a specific recovery schedule can be tricky. “Sometimes it takes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months,” he explained. The aim is to reduce inflammation so that players can perform effectively without aggravating the injury further.
Curry has shared his frustrations regarding the uncertainty of his condition. In a recent interview, he mentioned, “It’s frustrating not being able to play games, especially with injuries and not necessarily having a concrete schedule you can rely on.”
Curry’s eagerness to return might be influenced by the Warriors’ current standings. The veteran-laden roster would benefit from avoiding the play-in tournament, as they currently seem secure in the sixth seed in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the Lakers. The Trail Blazers and Clippers haven’t made significant pushes from their positions in ninth and tenth place.
Spears commented on the team’s precarious position: “This team is in kind of a no-man’s land. It’s probably too bad to be a playoff lock or a top-six spot, but it’s too good to not be in the play-ins.” Curry appears to be keen on making a playoff appearance and, if possible, a chance to contend further.
