Stephen A. Smith Praises Trump’s Peace Efforts
On Fox News this Tuesday, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith acknowledged President Donald Trump for his role in promoting global peace. He highlighted Trump’s involvement in various peace initiatives, including efforts between India and Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During his appearance on “Hornity,” Smith claimed that Trump’s contributions outshine those of many previous administrations, suggesting that the president has acted largely selflessly. “There’s no doubt he’s done what almost every administration tried to do when it comes to ending conflicts around the world,” Smith told Sean Hannity. “And he’s in a position where the political capital he stands to gain isn’t necessarily so great. His efforts shouldn’t go unrecognized.”
He went on, “That doesn’t mean I agree with everything he does. We could debate various points, but you’re spot on in noting that the benefits for him personally aren’t as significant.” Still, Smith emphasized that credit should be given where it’s due.
Trump has been actively engaged in trying to resolve the ongoing Russian-Ukraine conflict, a situation that has, tragically, claimed hundreds of thousands of lives since February 2022. Recently, Trump held a summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin and convened European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, at the White House to foster dialogue.
Despite these efforts, ABC News and CNN have criticized Trump’s hospitality toward Putin during their meeting in Alaska. Moreover, both CNN and MSNBC have drawn on former foreign policymakers to express their disapproval of Trump’s negotiation strategies.
Smith even criticized the Democratic leadership for the events that led to the current war in Ukraine. “We can’t act like Trump caused this. It’s a Democratic administration,” he pointed out. He lamented how previous decisions might have weakened Ukraine, placing part of the blame on prior administrations’ policies that left the country dependent on U.S. support.
During Trump’s first term, he also facilitated the Abraham Accords, normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Morocco, and Bahrain.
