Stephen A. Smith Dismisses Inquiry About Racism in Potential 2028 Presidential Run

Stephen A. Smith Addresses Racism and Presidential Aspirations

In a recent interview with CBS News Sunday Morning’s Robert Costa, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith tackled a question about potential racial concerns if he were to file a complaint with the White House.

Smith, who has indicated he might run for president as a Democrat, responded to Costa’s inquiry regarding whether he would be worried about racism. He expressed skepticism about the extent of racial issues, suggesting they may not be as significant as some on the political left portray. He shared his perspective in a YouTube interview, stating, “I know it exists. I know you can’t escape it, but I don’t think it’s as prevalent as some on the left would like us to believe.” He emphasized that, in his view, most Americans assess individuals based on their character rather than their race.

“It seems to me,” Smith continued, “that today, more than ever, people are less focused on race. The actual issue might be that individuals are preoccupied with their own challenges.” He elaborated that the current concerns of many white Americans revolve more around broader societal issues than racial dynamics, indicating a shift from past perceptions.

Smith also reflected on his deliberations regarding a potential run in the 2028 election, mentioning he plans to spend 2026 focusing on the nuances of the election landscape. “I confess that I am very much thinking about being on that debate stage in 2027,” he shared with Costa. “I mean, I don’t know everything, but I’m going to spend this year thinking about it before I decide what I want to do.”

While he intends to run as a Democrat, Smith has been vocal about his criticisms of the party, especially concerning their approaches to rhetoric, strategy, and policy.

In addition, on his SiriusXM show “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.,” he took a stand against sweeping labels, confronting a caller who claimed all Republicans are racist. “Goodbye, have a nice day. We’re not doing that…I’m not going to let anyone on either side of the aisle condemn a whole group of people,” he asserted. “That doesn’t solve anything.”
