Stephen A Smith intensifies his rivalry with NASCAR with an annoying two-word advice

Stephen A. Smith seems confused by the backlash from NASCAR drivers after he took some shots at them during a podcast rant last week.

It’s a bit surprising, right? I mean, it’s Stephen A. Smith. I kind of thought they’d stay quiet after his comments—they usually do. But here we are.

To recap, the host of “First Take” decided to share his thoughts on NASCAR following a caller who mentioned Richard Petty discussing LeBron James. Yes, LeBron again. Shockingly original, right?

During his podcast, Smith remarked, “Come on, come on, it doesn’t matter. You’re the one driving the car!” He insisted NASCAR is a great sport but maintained that it doesn’t compare in athleticism to other sports. He even added, “Golfers are not athletes. NASCAR drivers are not athletes.”

This isn’t exactly new ground—it sparks debates every few years, and people usually react strongly. It’s almost predictable at this point.

Last weekend, two-time Cup champion Joey Logano shot back, saying Smith needs these comments to stay relevant. I thought that was a valid point, really. After all, that’s kind of the game with podcasters; they say something shocking to get attention.

However, on his show later, Stephen A. didn’t agree. He directly addressed Logano, saying, “I only know you from a can of paint. Why can’t I have an opinion on NASCAR? My TV show has been number one in the morning for 14 years. I’ve been around long enough to not worry about staying relevant.”

What a comeback! This unexpected feud between Smith and NASCAR has turned out to be quite fascinating. Honestly, I didn’t see it coming, but it’s refreshing.

Now, I get it might seem boring to say both are right, but that’s honestly how I feel about it. I mean, it’s not the most exciting take, but it’s where I stand.

Joey Logano does make a solid point. Stephen A. is speaking his mind, which he’s done for over a decade. Conversations about relevancy and public opinion are swirling around him constantly. It’s apparent he enjoys the spotlight, striding into big NBA games as if he owns the place. There’s an undeniable allure that draws attention to him, and frankly, it works well—look at how much engagement he generates.

Many people tune in just because it’s Stephen A. However, I personally wouldn’t do what he does; I value my sanity too much.

But here’s where it gets a bit annoying. When people say, “Google me,” it can come off as obnoxious. It’s almost cringe-worthy, honestly—there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and self-important lines like that cross it.

In reality, most of Smith’s audience probably doesn’t know who Joey Logano is, and vice versa. It would actually be interesting to see them face off in some sort of competitive match—just to see how it plays out.

I think I’d put my money on Logano!
