Stephen A. Smith Names Two Democrats He Believes Are Best Suited to Lead Their Party

Stephen A. Smith Discusses Democratic Leadership Potential

On Thursday, Stephen A. Smith expressed his views on Fox News, highlighting Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore and Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro as exemplary leaders within the Democratic Party.

During his appearance on The Will Cain Show, Smith pushed back against skepticism surrounding Moore’s capabilities, labeling him as a standout candidate for democratic leadership. He also rejected the notion that the party’s energy is solely represented by those on the far left, making a pointed comment about hopeful candidate Zohran Mamdani from New York City.

“I believe Wes Moore is the ideal candidate. I think people are underestimating him,” Smith stated. “And honestly, his interview shouldn’t define who he is and what he stands for.” He also included Shapiro in this favorable view.

Smith further elaborated on his opinions, mentioning a desire for Andrew Cuomo to gain support in order to hinder Mamdani’s chances in the New York City mayoral race. “I don’t agree with what Mamdani represents. He’s pretty open about being a socialist, which doesn’t sit well with me. I’m a capitalist, and I’m not going to apologize for that. This is America, after all,” he added.

While Smith praised Moore as the “ideal candidate,” the governor recently made a significant error by claiming in his 2006 White House Fellowship application that he had received the “Maryland College Football Hall of Fame Award” alongside the Bronze Star. Later, he acknowledged these inaccuracies and criticized those who used them to attack his military record, expressing regret for not correcting the records sooner.

Moore has also faced scrutiny for multiple interviews in which he was introduced as a Bronze Star recipient without clarifying any discrepancies. Recently, he was criticized for being seen on George Clooney’s yacht in Italy, especially since Clooney has previously backed Moore as a potential presidential candidate.

As for Shapiro, his support for Israel has drawn criticism, particularly regarding his administration’s handling of sexual harassment complaints. When asked about his presidential aspirations on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Shapiro labeled himself as “not an expert” on the workings of Washington, D.C.
