Stephen A. Smith, 2028?
Smith introduced by Whoopi Goldberg as “ESPN host and political commentator” He told the host of “The View.” He said he would “definitely consider” running for president if he thought he could win.
“I'm half joking, but I'm serious,” Smith said Thursday. “I don't want to be a person in Congress or a senator, but if you came to me and said I have a legitimate chance of being elected president of the United States.”
This is not the first time Mr. Smith has “half-joked” about leading the free world.
In June 2022, Appearing on the podcast “The Recount”Smith said former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell once told him he should run for the Senate (though Smith remained uninterested).
In an episode of “First Take” filmed two months later, Smith said seriously. when Alleged to Paul Finebaum He said he would “strongly consider” running for president if that's what the American people want.
The transition from “strongly” to “surely” took just over two years.
With Donald Trump set to return to the Oval Office, Smith has four more years to think through his policy plans.
The multi-million dollar commentator, always a pragmatist, acknowledged that there are some obstacles to his candidacy.
“Here's the problem,” Smith began. “I will be an independent because I don’t like either side.
“I'm not going to be paid and bought. I'm going to do what's in the best interest of the American people, whatever that is. And I'm going to make my own decisions and stick to them. ”
When asked by The View if he was qualified to serve, Smith replied, “No way.”
