Stephen Colbert Echoes Democratic Representative Max Frost's Statement that Illegal Alien Arrests 'Resemble Kidnapping'

Colbert Discusses ICE and Immigration Enforcement

Stephen Colbert, host of the Late Show, addressed recent comments made by House Representative Maxwell Frost regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Frost suggested that ICE agents are “inviting people” and engaging in “trafficking” across borders.

Colbert reminisced about the “No Kings” protests that took place in Florida during the Trump administration. He mentioned that lawmakers have labeled ICE’s actions as a “taxpayer-funded lure operation.” Colbert expressed curiosity, asking, “What does that mean?”

“What’s happening now isn’t really a mass deportation,” Frost explained, pointing out the lack of legal processes involved. “Eighteen federal agents can invade communities, spring from unmarked vans, and people don’t even get a day in court. They just watch as people are taken to other countries.”

“Many realize this is happening outside the law,” he continued. “Due process should apply to everyone in this country, no matter their situation. It’s ironic for a party that talks so much about American exceptionalism to undermine the values that make our nation unique.”

Colbert commented on the gravity of the situation, saying, “It feels like when I’m most alert, an unmarked, windowless van shows up. Men in masks emerge, and they don’t identify themselves; they aren’t even wearing badges.” He questioned the risks that officers face in these scenarios.

ICE is primarily responsible for enforcing federal laws regarding illegal immigration and is tasked with deporting individuals who are undocumented. According to data from the Department of Homeland Security, there has been a reported 500% increase in assaults against ICE agents while they attempt to detain undocumented immigrants.
