Stephen Colbert Feels Insulted by Trump's Remarks on His Show's Cancellation

Colbert Responds to Trump’s Comments on Show Cancellation

In a recent turn of events, late-night host Stephen Colbert had some pointed remarks for President Donald Trump after the unexpected cancellation of his show. CBS labeled this decision as purely “financial,” a statement that followed reports from Breitbart News.

“Stephen Colbert will ‘retire from the Late Show franchise’ in May 2026,” an executive stated. They described Colbert’s contribution to late-night television as significant, emphasizing that the cancellation was not a reflection of ratings or content but rather a response to the current challenges within the late-night landscape.

Interestingly, this cancellation came shortly after Colbert criticized a $16 million settlement linked to Trump’s parent company, branding it as a “big fat bribe” related to Skydance’s merger. Some suggested that the show’s cancellation was politically motivated. Yet, it seems Colbert was prepared to walk away from $40 million a year to maintain his crew of 200 employees. In a notable reaction, Trump celebrated the ending of Colbert’s show.

“I absolutely love Colbert being fired. His talent was—well, let’s just say, less than what he thought. Jimmy Kimmel isn’t much better,” Trump remarked during a recent broadcast.

Colbert fired back during his Monday show, telling Trump to “fuck” himself. His delivery, paired with a laid-back New York accent, drew applause from the audience.

Addressing Trump’s comment about Jimmy Kimmel possibly facing a similar fate, Colbert assured, “No, absolutely not! Kimmel’s not going anywhere; there’s only one spot on this highway.”
