Stephen Colbert Mourns Kamala's Inability to Halt 'Barbaric' Trump

Colbert Reflects on Kamala Harris’s Interview with Trump

Stephen Colbert, host of CBS’s Late Show, expressed disappointment regarding former Vice President Kamala Harris. He remarked on her inability to rein in President Donald Trump during his first significant interview after losing the 2024 election.

Colbert raised questions about Trump’s actions, jokingly wondering aloud if anyone was considering another Capitol storming. He highlighted the chilling political atmosphere, remarking on the shocking behaviors and rampant corruption evident in America today.

Moreover, Colbert criticized both Congress and the Supreme Court for allowing Trump “free rule.” He indicated that not long ago, there was a sense of hope surrounding Harris’s campaign—the notion that they could push out what he termed an “absolute bastard” from the White House and move forward as a country.

Despite Trump’s election victory, which obliterated all swing states, recent polls suggested that Americans appear more optimistic than ever under his leadership. Colbert noted that Harris had warned everyone about the potential future under Trump, recapping the president’s promises to target political opponents, cut social programs, and neglect judicial rulings.

He queried Harris about whether she wanted to say “I told you so,” to which she acknowledged that she had indeed anticipated many of these developments, but added that the level of surrender from some had been unexpected. Harris shared her thoughts on the misguided belief among some that they were safeguarding democracy, a perspective she found naive.

Despite her insights, polls indicated that Democratic leaders still face challenges in gaining approval from the public. Colbert’s show, which has become known for its focus on left-leaning perspectives, continues to spotlight a narrow range of political guests—176 Democrats compared to only one Republican since 2022.
