Stephen Colbert’s Next Move After “Late Show” Cancellation

Following the cancellation of “Late Show,” Stephen Colbert appears to have quickly lined up his next project. He’s set to guest star on the CBS series “Elsbeth,” marking his continued presence in the late-night scene.

Colbert will take on the role of a late-night talk show host in the comedy, which debuted last summer. In this series, he plays the fictional host of “Way Late with Scotty Bristol,” part of a spinoff from the popular show “The Good Wife.”

Production for his episode began in New York last week, and sources suggest the episode was likely planned before CBS announced the cancellation of “Late Show.”

This new venture follows earlier comments from Colbert, who expressed a desire to appear on “Elsbeth,” especially after its star, Wendell Pierce, made a guest appearance on “Late Show” back in February.

Colbert recently addressed the audience during a taping at the Ed Sullivan Theatre, informing them about the end of his long-running show. He shared, “Next year will be its last season,” noting that the final curtain would come down in May.

The audience reacted vocally to the news, with Colbert acknowledging the feelings of his fans. “It’s not just the end of our show, but the end of ‘Late Show’ on CBS,” he remarked. He emphasized that the connection they built over the years made the experience worthwhile.

Colbert looked ahead, expressing excitement about continuing to entertain his audience for the remaining months. He seemed hopeful, saying, “That would be fun.”

While the network cited financial reasons for the show’s cancellation, many of comedy’s biggest names showed support for Colbert and his team in light of this news.
