Stephen Miller claims Iranian officials are eager to reach an agreement with Trump

U.S. Pressure on Iran Increases

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller mentioned on Tuesday that certain Iranian officials appear quite eager to negotiate with the Trump administration, particularly as tensions rise and U.S. pressure mounts. He noted, “There are elements in this country and in this government that are desperate for an agreement with the United States.” This comes in light of renewed attacks and a significant U.S. response to Iranian actions.

Miller emphasized that the Iran deal had been breached by Iran itself, causing attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait. He highlighted President Trump’s stance, saying, “You will not cross the United States; you will not violate the agreement.” Any violations would result in severe consequences, which, according to Miller, Iran experienced.

Ceasefire Breakdown

Miller’s remarks followed the collapse of a ceasefire, which the administration claims Iran breached. He suggested that Iranian leaders historically tested U.S. administrations without facing repercussions, but this time, they erred in thinking they could do the same with Trump at the helm. He stated, “They forgot that Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

Strategies to Address Iran

He outlined that the administration has various strategies to deal with Iran, including military options like bombing, blockades, economic measures, and global pressure—arguing that any combination of these could compel Iran to reconsider its current policies.

Miller further suggested that internal divisions within Iran could signal that Trump’s approach is effective. He reflected on the lack of visibility in Iranian affairs over the past decades, asking whether this internal strife might lead to changes. “It hasn’t had an inch of sunlight in 47 years,” he said, implying that the nation is grappling with its future amid serious challenges.

In reiterating the administration’s commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Miller insisted that abandoning its nuclear ambitions is essential for achieving a long-term peace.
