Mets Face Tough Loss Against Dodgers
Despite coach Nolan McLean’s efforts, the Mets experienced a significant defeat in Los Angeles on Tuesday, marking a tough stretch in their season.
As the situation worsens, the team’s ownership is trying to find a silver lining. Steve Cohen expressed that he noticed some “green shoots” in the team’s performance shortly after the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Dodgers. This phrase typically indicates initial signs of improvement in the business world.
Though the Mets (7-11) only managed a single run from four hits, Cohen, who attended the game at Dodger Stadium, found some hope for progress. He wishes that fans can remain optimistic as well.
“From an offensive standpoint, [Francisco] Lindor had two hits, including a home run. Cohen noted, “[Bo] Bichette, who has played right field recently, hit a double into left. [Carson] Benji also made a solid hit, and [Juan] Soto started running today. In addition, [Marcus] Semien nearly homered on a warm night. Plus, Nolan McLean pitched exceptionally well for seven innings. Fans, hang in there; we’ll turn this around!”
Lindor, in particular, had been struggling in April and had gone without a home run or an RBI until Tuesday night. He finally broke that streak with a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning against Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. This homer marked the Mets’ first run after a lengthy stretch of 20 scoreless innings, though they managed only one run despite 29 remaining frames.
So, this season, Lindor has been shut out more times (five) than he has scored ten or more points in a single game (two).
“The urgency level is very high,” Lindor remarked post-game. “I don’t think anyone is panicking, but we all understand the need to win. It’s crucial. We’re all focused on winning. It’s just a matter of time; we need to make it happen because we all recognize that winning is the challenge.”
McLean started strong, holding his ground against Yamamoto with just one run allowed over seven innings while striking out eight. Kyle Tucker, a free agent target for the Mets during the offseason, added to the Dodgers’ success by hitting an RBI single off reliever Brooks Lally.
The Mets are gearing up to win the last game of the series on Wednesday night, with Clay Holmes set to pitch against the talent of Shohei Ohtani.
