Warriors’ Coach Addresses Email Controversy
Steve Kerr emphasized on Tuesday that he shares a strong bond with Warriors owner Joe Lacob, even after expressing his disappointment with the team’s performance in a recent email to fans.
Lacob’s response came soon after the Warriors fell to the Trail Blazers, losing 136-131 in Portland on Sunday night.
In his message to supporters, Lacob conveyed his frustration about the team’s roster. He mentioned that no one feels more disappointed than he does, especially regarding the lack of use of Jimmy Butler’s capabilities.
“I’m working on it,” Lacob stated. “It’s complicated. The team’s play style, coach expectations, and league trends all factor in. Jimmy is not the issue here.”
While the email was shared online, Kerr downplayed the situation during a press briefing after the Warriors confirmed its authenticity. “It’s really not a big deal,” he remarked.
He added, “Posting private emails isn’t right. Just think about how much tougher life would be if everyone’s emails were exposed. Joe fully supports me, and I support him. Our connection is solid.”
Currently, the Warriors have a record of 13-14 this season and are sitting in 8th place in the Western Conference with a 2-4 start to December.
As a nuanced issue, Kerr’s coaching contract is also set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season.
“We’re all feeling frustrated,” Kerr stated. “Joe’s frustrated; so am I. Stephen [Curry] and Draymond [Green] are also feeling it. That’s just part of how the league operates.”
The Warriors will look to regain momentum as they prepare to face the Suns in Phoenix on Thursday.
