Steve Kerr responds to the 'shameful' ICE shooting that took Renee Good's life

Steve Kerr Calls ICE Shooting of Activist a “Murder”

After the Golden State Warriors’ victory over the Sacramento Kings, Steve Kerr, the team’s head coach, expressed his thoughts on a tragic incident involving ICE agents. During the post-game remarks, Kerr referred to the shooting of a Minnesota activist, Renee Good, as a “murder.”

While his team celebrated their win with a score of 137-103, Kerr’s mind was clearly occupied with larger issues. He has a history of supporting Democratic initiatives and has often criticized Republican policies. In his comments, he held “law enforcement officials” and the government accountable for the events leading to Good’s death.

“It’s genuinely shameful that there are officers who can commit murder and deny their guilt. It’s equally appalling that the government can come forward with false narratives despite clear video evidence and eyewitness accounts,” Kerr stated.

He added, “It’s devastating to lose a life in such a tragic manner. This is just horrible and heartbreaking—not only for her family but for the community as a whole.” Kerr also commended the Minnesota Timberwolves for honoring Good with a moment of silence.

During this homage, tensions surfaced. Some fans took the opportunity to voice their frustrations, with shouts of “ICE, go home,” and other expressions of dissent.

Incident Details

The Secretary of Homeland Security reported that Good was killed after she allegedly refused orders to exit her vehicle and attempted to drive towards ICE agents. Kristi Noem suggested that Good’s actions constituted defiance. “Our officers acted quickly to protect themselves and those nearby,” she explained.

Good was known as an immigration activist and a member of ICE Watch, which aims to monitor and challenge federal immigration enforcement efforts. Details surfaced indicating she had followed ICE agents to various locations prior to the confrontation.

This shooting has sparked further protests in the Twin Cities, particularly against the backdrop of a heightened ICE presence, part of broader immigration enforcement efforts under the previous administration.

In a past statement of solidarity, Kerr wore a Harvard basketball shirt to protest against bullying following an announcement related to campus anti-Semitism funding issues.
