Jessie J Reveals Early Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Pop star Jessie J has announced that she has been diagnosed with “early breast cancer” and mentioned to her followers that she plans to “disappear a little” following her upcoming concert due to surgery.
The artist, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, shared this honest health update on her Instagram page on Tuesday. “I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” she explained. “I want to stress that word, early. Cancer can be tricky in any form, but thankfully, I caught it early.”
Jessie learned about her diagnosis two months ago, right before the release of her single “No Secrets” in late April.
She continued, “I wanted to be open and share. To be honest, I don’t talk about it nearly enough. I’m focusing on my health, but I also know that sharing can help others— and even me.”
She reflected on the timing of her health issues with a bit of irony. “I released a song called ‘No Secrets’ just before ‘Living My Best Life,’ which is sort of funny since I didn’t anticipate this happening,” she added, with a tone of disbelief.
After her performance at a London summer event on June 15th, she underwent surgery and indicated that she would be stepping back a bit for recovery.
In her usual lighthearted manner, she joked, “This is quite a dramatic way to get some ‘boob work’ done.”
Meanwhile, she expressed empathy for others dealing with health struggles. “It breaks my heart to think of those going through similar, or even worse, situations,” she remarked.
Later on Instagram, Jessie shared, “I just opened up about something really personal that I’ve been holding onto for nine weeks. The timing feels so wild, yet beautiful, and it provides me with this unique perspective right now. But honestly, I need to process this— and maybe a hug would help.”
Her upcoming No Secrets Tour 2025 in Europe and the UK is set to kick off in Amsterdam at the end of summer, as noted on Jessie J’s official website.
Jessie J has been candid about her health challenges in the past, including contracting COVID-19 at one of her concerts and experiencing a miscarriage in 2021.
In May 2023, she welcomed her first child with boyfriend Chanan Safir Kolman, a retired basketball player.
