December ADP Private Payroll Report to be released on Thursday
The December ADP private payroll report, released Thursday morning, is expected to show companies added 130,000 employees last month, according to a survey of economists conducted by Dow Jones. This is an increase from the previous month's 103,000.

The first unemployment claims are expected to be announced Thursday morning.
Initial jobless claims, or the number of workers applying for unemployment benefits for the first time, are expected to reach 219,000 in the week ending Dec. 30, according to Dow Jones consensus forecasts. This is a slight increase from the previous week, when first claims totaled 218,000.

Stock prices move significantly after hours
These companies are making the most moves in after-hours trading.
- Cal Mayne Foods — Cal Mayne Foods shares fell 6.1%.fresh egg producers report Earnings for the second quarter were 35 cents per share, significantly lower than earnings of $4.07 per share in the year-ago period. Sales were $523.2 million, down from $801.7 million a year earlier. Calmaine Foods said it expects a recent HPAI outbreak at its Kansas facility to negatively impact its overall egg supply until the flock is restocked.
- Resources Connection — The management consulting firm's stock soared 4.8%. Resources Connection's second-quarter revenue was $163.1 million, beating the $161.9 million he expected from analysts surveyed by FactSet. Meanwhile, the company's earnings per share were 14 cents, below the consensus estimate of 17 cents per share.
- MongoDB — MongoDB stock fell about 2%. According to FactSet, UBS downgraded the stock from buy to neutral and lowered its price target, saying the stock does not follow the same trajectory as last year. In 2023, MongoDB's stock price has more than doubled.
