Stop Antisemitism sees a significant rise in hate reports since the October 7 tragedy.

Countering Anti-Semitism Since October 7, 2023

When Hamas initiated its violent actions on October 7, 2023, the world was confronted with the harsh realities of systemic hatred. In the time since, Stop Antisemitism has actively taken a stand against this epidemic, apprehending over 1,000 individuals for anti-Semitic behavior. More than 400 of these individuals lost their jobs, while over 300 remain under investigation. This reflects a resolute stance in challenging perilous times.

The drive to combat anti-Semitism isn’t merely an academic concern; it’s a necessity. Anti-Jewish sentiment was already gaining traction before that fateful date, fueled by alliances between radical leftists and Islamic extremists. University campuses had become places rife with falsehoods, prejudice, and harassment directed at Jews and Israelis. We were already in the trenches, fighting this battle.

However, since that momentous day, reports of anti-Semitic incidents have surged—by around 1,500 percent. Our organization had to expand its team just to manage the influx of alerts and ensure appropriate responses.

Regrettably, the spread of anti-Semitism has now also infiltrated some segments of the political right. Figures who were once respected personalities seem to have adopted harmful rhetoric, perhaps seeking to generate social media attention for personal gain.

From the outset, we’ve taken a proactive approach to expose and hold accountable those perpetuating Jew-hatred, including public figures, workplace officials, and professionals in academia. Our aim isn’t revenge; it’s about getting results. The stakes get higher when organizations feel pressured not to tolerate anti-Semitic remarks from those who previously thought they could remain hidden.

Some may argue, “Isn’t this just cancel culture? Shouldn’t we have discussions?” In this instance, the answer is no. Anti-Semitism is more than a mere issue; it’s a dangerously spreading malignancy. When society allows this kind of hatred to go unaddressed, it not only endangers Jews but shakes the very foundations of trust and democracy.

We are witnessing the repercussions of unchecked anti-Semitism. Alarmingly, anti-Semitic incidents have risen dramatically on campuses. Our 2024 report reveals a staggering 3,000% increase in such incidents, with 43% of students stating they would not recommend their institution to Jewish peers.

Too often, responses from authorities have been inadequate or non-existent. A glaring example includes the recent report by the U.S. Department of Education noting that the Harvard Law Review awarded a substantial scholarship to an individual charged with assaulting a Jewish student on campus.

When Jewish students feel threatened in universities, it signals a broader moral failure in society. When educators and public figures can spread anti-Semitic tropes in public discourse without repercussions, the issue transcends being marginal—it becomes mainstream.

This aggressive stance against anti-Semitism is essential; if left unaddressed, it spreads through societal structures, affecting legal, educational, and cultural realms.

By unearthing names, faces, and documented statements, we aim to build resilience against this tide of hatred. We advocate for public awareness and encourage law enforcement engagement. We’re collaborating with educational institutions and employers to uphold a standard of conduct that intolerates anti-Semitism.

Over the past two years, our efforts have proven effective. We’ve seen accountability; there are consequences for those who propagate hatred. The narrative has shifted from a culture of impunity to one where actions have repercussions. The guideline now is that if you spread anti-Semitic hate, people will take notice, institutions will respond, and accountability will follow.

However, this isn’t solely our responsibility. It falls on all citizens. Every media outlet, university board, employer, and conscientious individual must reject the sanitized justifications for anti-Jewish sentiment. Because once anti-Semitism is normalized, it threatens the core of our society.

History teaches us that anti-Semitism flourishes in weakening societies. Civilizations like the Roman Empire and regimes such as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union now exist only in historical accounts.

For generations, the condition of Jewish life has served as a bellwether for societal health. If these communities suffer, it’s a sign of broader toxicities. Our mission is to eradicate this poison before it chokes America, the greatest nation in history.
