Stop the manipulation regarding ICE

In a recent segment on CNN’s State of the Union on February 15th, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made some striking claims about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), branding it a “rogue force” that’s “out of control” and seemingly trained to be “mean and cruel.”

He criticized the agency for, among other things, having “undercover agents operating without warrants,” knocking on doors, and using tactics reminiscent of secret police found in dictatorships, all while lamenting “chaos, secrecy, and zero accountability.”

Schumer pointed to a tragic incident in Minneapolis where an American citizen lost their life during a crackdown, portraying ICE as a threat to “innocent Americans” and the average immigrant family.

This characterization seems rather exaggerated.

He continued, with Democrats pushing for what they term “common sense” policies—like banning ICE officers from wearing masks, mandating body cameras, requiring warrants for entries, and revising use-of-force guidelines.

The Democrats have voiced these demands while also partially shutting down the government by withholding funding from the Department of Homeland Security and other federal bodies.

Schumer’s portrayal flips reality on its head. In truth, ICE is a federal agency acting within the framework of immigration laws that Congress has enacted under the leadership of an elected president.

Its practices—like administrative warrants for civil removals and the use of standard tactical equipment—are common in high-risk law enforcement situations, especially considering a significant rise in assaults and threats against officers.

While local police might not identify themselves during everyday traffic stops, they’re not often facing the same risks as ICE when dealing with armed drug cartels or activist groups that threaten officers’ safety.

Schumer’s selective outrage overlooks that many agencies operate with similar enforcement protocols without being labeled as secret police.

Though the events in Minneapolis were tragic, they don’t reflect a systematic pattern of violence; they are exceptions in operations that mainly target individuals with criminal backgrounds or final removal orders.

Upholding immigration laws is crucial for maintaining American sovereignty.

Unchecked illegal immigration can undermine social contracts and create financial burdens for taxpayers, with significant costs attributed to education, healthcare, and welfare.

The Democratic push against ICE isn’t about accountability. It’s, rather plainly, a strategy to accept uncontrolled illegal immigration.

As populations in blue states like California and New York decline, many look to red states for lower taxes and better opportunities. A continuous influx of noncitizens, regardless of legality, seems crucial for states like California to avoid losing federal support and seats in Congress.

The Constitution counts “persons,” not just citizens, when allocating representation, so having undocumented immigrants in sanctuary cities can actually boost California’s political clout.

The resistance to enforcing immigration laws isn’t just a humane stance; it’s also about retaining power.

In defending the partial government shutdown, Schumer insists that the public supports his “common sense” proposals. Polls do suggest a majority finds ICE’s tactics overly aggressive.

Yet, it’s worth noting that the media often portrays isolated incidents as if they represent the broader actions of ICE, which likely fuels growing public dissatisfaction.

Additionally, large donors on the left appear to be orchestrating these anti-ICE demonstrations, transforming apparent grassroots anger into a powerful agenda aimed at restricting border security.

Public opinion can be easily influenced, and there’s a concerted effort from the left to amplify dissent.

However, many Americans aren’t softening their views about illegal immigration; they are responding to a politicized narrative surrounding these issues.

It’s rather astonishing that a major political party might align itself with undocumented individuals at the expense of American safety, jobs, and resources.

ICE’s robust enforcement shouldn’t be viewed as “disgusting”; rather, it’s essential for restoring order.

The American populace rejected the idea of open borders in 2024. They shouldn’t be misled into thinking that ICE’s actions or the previous administration have crossed some unacceptable line.

Everyday, law-abiding taxpayers deserve an immigration system that functions effectively, laws that are logical, and representatives who place the welfare of American citizens above transient political ambitions.
