David Axelrod, a senior political commentator at CNN and former Obama adviser, said in the “Newsroom” on Friday that President Donald Trump's cuts to USAID were “silly” and “more radical than spending.”
“I am keenly interested in what happened with USAID. It is not a blow to humanitarian or democratic causes around the world, but a stupid move for our own national security,” Axelrod said. It creates an incredible opening for China and Russia, and creates enemies of our nation who want to fill in the violations we have left here.”
He added: “There's no transparency about how this money is being cut either. It's more radical than any spending I've seen. Elon Musk and his band of musketeers who are rampaging through the government, and they're the ones who are saying they're the ones who are , knowing that all prices and nothing costs. They cut indiscriminately without assessing what their impact is. So when talking about the outcome , we may not know the results right away, but those results may be felt in people's lives. Ultimately, people in our country live their lives every day. They will ultimately assess how they are affected by these things. It may be deeply bad because of the reckless, careless and inexplainable way that it is being done now. Not there.”
