A substitute teacher in Florida has reportedly engaged in sexual activities with a student while in his car and allegedly sought sexual favors from another underage girl.
Marcel Javaris-Smith, 27, reportedly approached a female student after class in October, asking for her phone number and later making several explicit demands for photos and sexual acts. An arrest report confirmed by local news indicates that he messaged the girl, saying, “Damn, I want to see more videos and pictures, just a little more exclusive stuff, you know,” after she declined his advances.
The underage girl continued to resist his proposals, yet Smith persisted, stating, “But think about what I’m doing at your school. You can trust me.”
Smith, who had been a substitute in Broward County for three years, eventually met the girl at a fast-food restaurant on October 14, where he asked her for sex, which she again turned down.
Five days later, he allegedly picked up the girl, took her to Oswald Park in Fort Lauderdale, and had sex with her in his car despite her clear refusals.
According to the report, the girl repeatedly told him “no” and expressed her unwillingness to engage in sexual activity.
Smith is accused of having approached the girl in school and attempting to lure her into an empty classroom, but she refused.
Afterward, the girl reported him to school security, who then escalated the complaint to authorities.
Smith, a former teacher at Northeast High School, was taken into custody on Friday. When questioned about his encounter with the girl at Oswald Park, he stated that he “couldn’t remember” and abruptly ended the police inquiry.
During the investigation regarding the initial charges, authorities discovered Smith allegedly solicited sex from another girl, though her age has not been verified.
Details regarding this second allegation have not been disclosed, except that she sent a message after giving him her phone number.
Smith faced a judge on Saturday, who stated, “You are charged with sexually assaulting a 16- or 17-year-old victim by a person over the age of 24 and soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a person of authority.”
He was instructed to have no contact with the alleged victims and is prohibited from teaching in the county.
