Subway Cuts Free Footlong Benefit from Loyalty Program
A significant change is coming to Subway’s loyalty program, much to the disappointment of its loyal customers. The Sub Club, which allowed members to score a free Footlong for every three purchased, is set to lose that perk after April 1. Reports confirm this shift.
Going forward, members will now earn $2 in rewards for every 400 points they collect. Subway, in a statement, indicated that the program—which was reintroduced just two months ago—has sparked renewed conversations about its value.
However, the removal of the free Footlong has left many fans quite unhappy. One social media user humorously remarked that they “bankrupted Subway” by exploiting the previous offer. Another commented on how swift this change seemed, lamenting the loss of a popular reward.
A few fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the revisions, stating that this might lead them to stop choosing Subway altogether, while others reminisced about the days of $5 subs, finding this new policy a bit nostalgic.
The decision to alter the rewards system reportedly came, at least in part, due to pressure from franchisees who felt the program was too generous. A petition from 5,000 Subway restaurants pushed for changes to the stamp program, deeming it unsustainable.
Online reactions show a mix of frustration and humor as fans process the news. It appears that the relationship between Subway and its customers is now up for reevaluation, with some suggesting it might be time to say goodbye for good.
