Rep. Summer Lee Bans Strategist Over Misconduct Claims
Rep. Summer Lee from Pennsylvania has reportedly prohibited the top strategist for Democratic candidate Graham Platner from her campaign due to allegations of sexual misconduct. These claims have surfaced recently, making headlines.
Daniel Morav, who played a role in recruiting Platner for his run in the Maine Senate, has been barred from “participating” in Lee’s 2022 campaign and cannot attend any related events. This decision comes after “at least three allegations of sexual misconduct” against Morav, as noted by recent sources.
There have been previous issues as well. Morav was sidelined from working with Lee’s campaign back in 2017 after he was involved in efforts to support her candidacy for a state representative position from Pittsburgh’s Mon Valley.
Additionally, reports indicate that a consultant from the Justice Democratic Group, which had been backing Lee, warned “activists, staff, and volunteers to stop engaging with Mr. Morav.”
By the end of 2022, Morav was officially excluded from Lee’s groundbreaking Congressional race. She made history as the first Black woman elected to Congress from Western Pennsylvania, managing to overcome a significant $5 million advertising push from AIPAC.
It appears that Morav’s ban has become definitive following multiple accusations against him, leading to a complete separation from Lee’s campaign activities. In early 2022, a team of consultants from Justice Democrats advised everyone involved with Lee to refrain from contacting Morav, despite his attempts to influence her campaign.
Interestingly, Morav and his fiancée, Lian Huang, revealed in June that they had “discovered and mentored” Platner. They have been characterized as a couple of “Ivy League-educated radical democratic socialists.”
Besides supporting Lee, Morav has also backed Daniel Osborn, a U.S. Navy veteran running for a Senate seat in Nebraska in 2024. In an earlier attempt in 2024, Osborne faced off against Sen. Deb Fischer but is now gearing up to challenge Sen. Pete Ricketts.
The recent reports follow Platner’s announcement to suspend his Senate campaign due to similar allegations of sexual misconduct.
